Thanksgiving Eve

Normally I love this time of year. I love Thanksgiving cause that means that Christmas is right around the corner. I love the decorations, and the planning of meals and the eating (of course!!!) and being with family and all that the Thanksgiving/Christmas holiday season involves. But for some reason, I seem to be having trouble getting into the swing of the holidays this year.

There shouldn’t be any particular reason for it either. I’ve got most of the decorations out – except the tree which we will hopefully get it out Thursday or Friday. I have been listening to Christmas music to help things along. But it’s just not getting it! Why? I have no idea. What I do know – I need to get on with it, or there will be no gifts for the family and I don’t think that will go over too well with the little ones!!!

So in an effort to get my mind and spirit in line with the holidays I’m going to list a few things I’m thankful for (yup, there are many bloggers doing this same thing!), some are serious some are silly, but I’m thankful for all of them just the same!

1) My really great hubby! Thank you for your constant love and support! Love you Baby!

2) Pilate’s class – so I don’t have to work on the weight machines all on my own!

3) The Fresh Market’s Peppermint Cream coffee! Oh yummy goodness!

4) Date nights with for-mentioned hubby to eat sushi! So yummy and low in calories!

5) Thoughts of my sister and mom going wedding gown shopping the day after Thanksgiving! Hate to miss it, but know it will be SO MUCH FUN!

6) Friends

7) Kohl’s

8) My funny, high energy, always ready for something fun children!

9) My mother in laws pecan pie! (I’m gonna work extra hard at the gym today just so I can have a slice of that gooey goodness!!)

10) Children who sleep all night long!

And one last one…

11) Blogs of family and friends near and far!

OK – so that’s a kinda weird list, but even now I feel better! I have so much to be thankful for today – and every day!

John 3:16
For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life!

And just a few pictures to remind me of all I have to be thankful for…

I'm with ya here, honey. You KNOW how much I love Christmas, but for whatever reason, it's just happening with much internal pressure. Last evening Dad helped me get the majority of the decorations down, so now I have a messy, messy house and still no gumption to get it going. My mind is a jumbled mess, as well. I don't know why all this is happening. Perhaps because now I look at the decorations, knowing that in another month they all have to be taken down & put away. That's a real mood breaker!

After I read Jessi's blog, I think perhaps she hit a note that might explain some things...for me, anyway. So many tradtions that developed over the years have, by necessity, disappeared. The whole getting together to prepare Thanksgiving dinner thing is a biggie. It's pure selfishness on my part, because, flat out, I want my family (kids, in-laws, grandkids) all together at my house every year! You know...the "over the river & through the woods to Grandmother's house" kinda thing. I know that Ed & Carolyn love it just as much as I do, so I have to share, but that doesn't stop me from being sad about it. ;-)

Also, there were a couple years when you & Chanda would come to my house & we'd bake cookies all day. The last year that happened was in 2000. Then we had to up & move away!

Since 1990, when we moved south, it's been all about making new tradtions, and each subsequent move/life-change calls for even more tradition-changing until there are few traditions remaining.

I, too, have much to be thankful for, and I truly am thankful. I just would like to be geographically closer to my family.

I sure wish you could be here to go gown shopping with Chanda & me, too! You can't just beam yourself here on Friday morning, can ya? LOL

Love you, and pray you have a good day!

I hear you! I am having a hard time too, mostly because with Jonathan's allergies we can't bring the tree inside the house until no more than 2 weeks before Christmas. We may get an artifical tree at the end of the season, but not until then. I am going to do my best to keep focusing on Jesus and I know that will take care of it. Hang in there and have a Happy Thanksgiving!
