Is It Well?

In doing my devotions this morning I was reminded of how good God is, how He's good all the time, in the bad times and in the good. He's good when we don't see it and when we wonder what in the world is going on here? Truly my faith is the cornerstone of my relationship with Jesus Christ.

The author of this morning’s devotions referenced the old hymn (David, I put the words up just for you!) It Is Well . This is one of my favorite hymns. I'm not a big hymn girl (unlike my hubby who loves them!) but this has to be one of my very favorites. They writer of the hymn lost EVERYTHING he had... his 4 daughters and all his earthly wealth - if after that he can look to the Lord and say, it is well - then by golly, I can too!

Be encouraged by these words today. Read them all - each one - let the Lord touch your heart and encourage it as He has done mine this morning!

It Is Well

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

Refrain
It is well, with my soul,
It is well, with my soul,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
Let this blest assurance control,
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
And hath shed His own blood for my soul.

Refrain

My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
My sin, not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

Refrain

For me, be it Christ, be it Christ hence to live:
If Jordan above me shall roll,
No pang shall be mine, for in death as in life
Thou wilt whisper Thy peace to my soul.

Refrain

But, Lord, ‘tis for Thee, for Thy coming we wait,
The sky, not the grave, is our goal;
Oh trump of the angel! Oh voice of the Lord!
Blessèd hope, blessèd rest of my soul!

Refrain

And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
Even so, it is well with my soul.

Refrain

Words: Horatio G. Spafford, 1873.

What a pretty blog you have!!!! Your kind words just made my morning. Don't you just love hanging out at Emily's - its food for the soul. So glad for your visit. I'll check in on you as well. Have a great day.

I sang it in my head as I read it. It, too, is probably my favorite hymn!

This is my favorite hymn! This is going to sound morbid but I want this played at my funeral.

Shannon, I think it's a great song to be played at a funeral! What could be better for the soul than being home?? Had a blast last night, thanks again!
