Princess

I love books. Lots of books. But honestly, I mostly love kids books! Don't tell anyone, OK? I know I'm kinda old for kids books, but what can I say? I love them!

Avery has a book written by one of my favorite adult book authors - Shelia Walsh. She has a series of books out for little girls. Actually she has some for boys now too, but I believe it all started as books for girls. It's a great series. Avery and Luke both have books as well as devotionals that she has written.

Gigi is the little girl in the girl books, but it could be your name!

Avery has 2 of the books in the collection, but my favorite, and the one this post is about is called "There's a Princess In Me." It's a really cute book with a funny story, but the truths in this book apply to all ages from 3 year old girls to their 35 year old moms.

We read this book most every night, and for that I'm thankful. It turns out that I daily need the reminder that God loves me and see through the "yucky-ness" of me each day! It does me good to end the day with a reminder of God's love.

Here's just a glimpse into the book - actually it's some of the stuff from the back cover of the book:

"It doesn't matter how she looks, feels, or acts, Gigi knows there is more to being royal than just what the mirror shows. For God looks inside, and the girl He sees is precious... a royal princess of the heavenly King."

What does that mean to you?

Doesn't that just cut some of the yuck aside and hit the nail on the head?

It does for me. It reminds me that it just doesn't matter how I feel about myself or what I did (like yell at my kids when I shouldn't have or honked my horn at some poor driver on the road on the way to school) or didn't (like give more words of praise to the kids, or lend an extra helping hand to someone at the store) do, that God sees all that - knows it all - and STILL loves me. Thinks I'm a princess even! Wow!

This simple - yet important truth for my little girl to learn now and carry through her life - is just as important for me and every other woman to know also!

"God has chosen you and made you his holy people. He loves you. So always do these things: Show mercy to others; be kind, humble, gentle and patient." Colossians 3:12

I love that, don't you? God has chosen me, AND He loves me! Don't you just need that kinda word hug some days?

So if you are in need today of a little pick me up, write down Colossians 3:12 on a card or paper or sticky note or whatever then keep it somewhere where you can see it through the day. Then bask in the love your Heavenly Father has for you.

I'm gonna end this post with the dedication at the beginning of the book:

"This book is dedicated to every girl, big or little, who sometimes forgets that she is always a Princess in God's eyes!"

Try to remember today how much God loves you!

Absolutely perfect! Even grandmothers benefit by that! Wouldn't it be great if we could somehow get together to do a ladies retreat and have several of us talk about the pure awesomeness of God?!!! You could have 3 or 4 different speakers, speaking from various ages about the place we hold in the court of our almighty God and King. So often women are caught up in so many different things that we forget just where we stand in the bright love of the Holy King of Kings and Lord of Lords. If you ever decide to do anything like that, I'd be ever so happy to help you pull it together & be a part of it.

Ladies retreats are wonderful! I haven't been to one since I left Wendover Hills, but they do one every year - AT THE BEACH! Westover also does one, but I haven't been on one of those yet either! I'm not sure I'm up for undertaking the planning of a ladies retreat! I did that when I was at Wendover Hills (a couple of times!)and it's fun, but it's a TON of work!
