Grocery Store Envy

Normally I shop at Wal Mart. It’s cheaper and back when I stopped teaching to stay home, that was one of the things we decided to do to save money. It took a while to get used to the new grocery store, but it’s been 5 years and I’m comfortable there now.

I know it’s kinda weird, but it’s nice to go into a store, know where stuff is, get it and get out. But I’m starting to have a bit of grocery store envy. Is that a real thing? I don’t know, but I’ve got it for sure!

Let me explain, with our “new eating lifestyle” WalMart doesn’t always have the things I need. They don’t really carry a wide range of “specialty” items. Now, I’m not looking for totally off the wall stuff, but for the last couple of weeks, I’ve had on the menu to make this tomato and fennel sauté thing. It’s been carried from one week to the next on the menu cause Wal Mart doesn’t carry fennel and I have a hard time making it to 2 different grocery stores. But there have been a couple of things like that that I just cannot get there.

It was a treat to go grocery shopping and the reason it was a treat was because we received some Harris Teeter gift cards for Christmas from one of David’s clients! And let me just tell you – that right there – that’s a nice grocery store! It was like I had just walked into the biggest shoe store you could imagine! I was so excited!

They have a wide range of fresh fruits and veggies (some are organic and ever thing!) and some from local growers - COOL! The next section at this wonderful Harris Teeter was the fresh bread section. Golly, the smell alone was enough to make me forget the rest of my list!!! And of course the fresh fish and meats section was wonderful, lots of yummy choices! And the choices of low fat pre made items was amazing! You see, Wal Mart doesn’t have any of these things! Yes, they have a produce section, but it’s not always great, and there are things I cannot get.

But before I boar you to death by walking you through each aisle at this magnificent grocery store – let’s just leave it with this last thought – I really enjoyed using our gift cards at Harris Teeter! And in all my excitement – I stuck pretty well to my list and the total was only $8.00 over the amount of the gift cards! I think Harris Teeter gift cards are my new favorite gift!

I do most of my shopping at Walmart also. But I love HT! When I am stressed and have to shop, I go to HT. Frank doesn't even fuss about it either! He feels the same way!

I, too, love Harris Teeter!! I really hate it that there aren't any around here. I settle for Ingles, instead. Not as good as HT, but better than Walmart!

Mom we don't have Ingles' here. Lots of other stores, but no Ingles!
