Havin' an extra...

This week I'm trying my hand at having 3 children. How you ask, can you "try" to have more children than you actually do? Well, the answer is to keep your friends children!

So that's just what we're doing this week! We have the honor of keeping the son of some of our good friends. They are at a conference in FL this week and their 2 year old son is hangin' out with the Winslow's! This allows them to have some good, quality alone time before the husband, who is a Chaplin in the Navy, deploys for 7 or 8 months.

So far it's been great! The kids all get along very well, and the additional playmate for Avery while Luke is at school has been great!

I gotta say, there are things that having a younger child around again helps me remember that I seem to have already forgotten, like:

How very quickly I forgot what it's like to have a child in diapers! My goodness, it hasn't been that long ago that I had one in diapers, but once they are done with diapers, it's like your brain stops using all the things you did every day. Pack a diaper bag, make sure to change them before getting in the car... and on and on, but it sure comes back FAST!

Then there's the napping. Avery hasn't taken a nap in probably a year or more. It's almost crazy to have quiet time during the day, with a child in the house. I didn't know what to do with myself while he napped today!!?!?!?!

Also, both my kids can pretty much get themselves dressed. Avery dresses herself because her brother dresses himself. But regardless of why, both Luke and Avery can get themselves dressed. Most 2 year old's cannot. I forgot that.

We seem to have lots of things with small parts. How did that happen? I don't know, but Lego's are NOT good for little ones under about 5!

Having all those reminders helps me to remember what it was like, and how much fun my own kids were at that age. It's been great having him and I have LOVED having a playmate for Avery when Luke is at school! It's been fun! I'm looking forward to the rest of the week together!

And just to be clear, so no one makes any mistake - I will not be having a third child of my own. I think God gave me 2 wonderful children and I'm really happy with that!

I'm so glad it's going well with your little guests! Is everyone sleeping well? That was such a selfless thing for y'all to do for your friends, and I know how much they must appreciate it!

Hang in there!
Love you,
Mom

That's awesome that you are willing to do that for your friends!! We know how very grateful we are for friends and family who are willing to help with our kids for Todd & I to get away now and then!
