More Christmas

The Beauty of Meds

I have to say that modern medicine is a wonderful thing! After visiting the pediatrician yesterday – it turns out that Avery has an ear infection and was given antibiotics!! Yippee! After one dose of the antibiotic and one dose of Zyrtec she slept thru the night! She seems to feel better even today! So I’m thankful for the docs and the meds. Unfortunately it wasn’t a simple thing to pick up the meds, but that’s more complaining, and I don’t want to do that! I’m just happy she’s doing better!

There are more, but we'll leave it at that for now!!

Kick the Sick

I don’t mean to complain (but I’m going to so if you don’t want to hear it, stop reading now!), but I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired. Well, I’m not sick – not really – just some sniffles, but poor Avery’s been sick since Thanksgiving and David is sick again – with another sinus infection – his second one since Thanksgiving as well. My family cannot seem to “kick the sick” and frankly I’m sick of it!!

I’m hoping and praying that after tomorrow everyone will be on the road to recovery! David went to the Minute Clinic at CVS today and they gave him an antibiotic – again – round 2 for him for the sinus infection. And in the morning we’ll be calling and making an appointment for Miss Avery - I really hope they can do something to help her. Bless her heart she’s only gotten like 4 or 5 solid night’s sleep since Thanksgiving (which you know means that’s all I’ve gotten as well!) due to her coughing herself awake at night!!! So I’m praying that maybe they can give her something to help finally get over this and she can get back to feeling like her cute little self (and we can both start sleeping all night again)!

The drastic changes in weather haven’t helped the sicknesses any either. One day it’s 65, the next its 40 and rainy, and then the next it’s 67… what in the world?? Its December it’s supposed to be cold, right? Maybe it’s global warming, I don’t know, but what it means for the Winslow’s is sickness.

Ok, that’s the end of my ranting about my family being sick. I guess I just needed to vent!

Stay tuned for pictures… I really will post Christmas pictures soon!

A fun time

I have to say this year was really, really fun for us! This was I think really the first year that Luke was totally into Christmas! He was so excited on Christmas Eve about Santa coming and he keep talking about hearing the Reindeer outside with their bells! It was so cute! Then on Christmas morning he was such a good sport while he waiting for the adults to get up, brush our hair and teeth, take Jane out, get Avery up and make coffee… then he tore into his gifts! He handed out a few to the rest of us, but mostly we enjoyed watching him open his new car race track, Lincoln Logs, Tinker Toys, building blocks, books, bath toys and on and on! It was fun! Avery was fun too, she was mostly into bow, pulling paper and sitting on her gifts after they were opened!

Santa was very good to all of us this year! I got a new laptop – which is totally cool, as well as a bunch of Pampered Chef stuff, Creative Memories books and pages, a mothers ring (from my sister!! Way to go Chanda) and a really cute Precious Moments figurine from Luke (thanks to Nanny!) David got some manly things like a gun safe, a Leatherman, and money, and the kids got all variations of gifts from race cars to baby dolls! It was wonderful!

I have to say that for some reason this year the food was awesome too! Christmas Eve and Christmas dinner were both great! I don’t know maybe it was the relaxed fun atmosphere this year that made everything seem sweeter! It was a wonderful time with family for sure! I’ll be posting pictures as soon as I get them downloaded and all that! There are tons of them!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and I wish you a safe and blessed New Year!

The next 2 dresses

Dress #3 - these pictures were actually taken by my sister in laws brother! She did wear the dress again to church, but I have lost the camera, and couldn't take any pictures of her that Sunday morning. But these are too cute!

This is the dress she wore this week - but these pictures were taken at the Kauffman Family Christmas Party. I didn't have the camera this week, but it's the same dress!

Avery's Christmas Dresses

This was the first dress in the series!

Week #2:

Then I lost the camera last week, and have no actual pictures from Sunday morning... but I will post some of her in that same dress! Stay tuned!

It's always something

That seems to be how things are going these days! It’s always something – something good, or something bad, something lost, gone, misplaced, given away (without meaning too), NOT given away when it was supposed to be, sickness, driving into the garage wall by mistake (and unfortunately it wasn’t the first time!), my son getting our computer TOTALLY infested with spy wear, friends moving far, far away and on and on.

It’s supposed to be a time of year when I’m focused on and thinking about the birth of my Savior – Satan’s working overtime this year to keep me from doing that, I think! So I’ve just decided to GET OVER IT!

Its Christmas time, my parents are coming and I think this year will be the most fun yet with Luke on Christmas morning!! What really warms my heart – but I haven’t been focusing on it enough – is that when you ask Luke who’s birthday we celebrate on Christmas he says emphatically – JESUS! I know he doesn’t fully understand it yet, and on Christmas morning the most important thing to him will be his presents under the tree, but I know that there is a seed planted in his little, tender heart and that one day (I pray for it every night!) that Christmas morning will dawn in his heart as a special day – not because of the gifts under the tree – but because that’s the day that his Lord was born and then 33 years later Jesus hung on a tree for his sins. That’s what I should be focusing on these few days before Christmas!

So this blog is to help me clear my head of all the other junk, and to move into my head and heart that wonderful, miraculous baby in the manger and how HE changed my life and how I really want my children to know the amazing-ness of a Christ filled life too. I really want to focus on my eternal gift of life this Christmas Season and remember that Jesus did not have to be born in a dirty stable and laid in an animal feeding trough, but that he CHOSE to do that for ME – yup, for ME! If I had been the only person in the whole wide world who needed His saving grace, He still would have come to earth and died for me.

With all that on my heart and mind – there’s not room in my “inn” (or my brain!) for anything else!

So from now on – the “something” I will be focusing on will be celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ! Merry Christmas to you!

Been a while

I know it’s been forever since I blogged! What is my deal? I have no idea… it may be the baking for the 2 cookie swaps I went to last week, the mountains of laundry my family seems to produce, the fact that I’ve had at least one sick child sometimes (like now) both of them sick since Thanksgiving, the visit from a wonderful friend who lives in Wilmington, then there could be the general house “running” stuff, or the fact that our very good friends are taking a job in FL, maybe it’s just been other holiday stuff – shopping, wrapping, decorating, making menu lists and grocery lists, or maybe it’s been the gray weather that just seems to have me somewhat down lately – could be any one of those things that has keep me from blogging! But I’m here now, so we’ll see what I have to say!

It’s hard to believe that Christmas is only 5 days away! It seems like just this time last year we were getting adjusted to having Avery and getting back into the “normal” swing of things! And here we are again – Christmas time! Avery is 13 months old now, and Luke is looking at 4! Time sure does fly! I’ve been totally unprepared this year for Christmas! Although we started our shopping – and got mostly done for the kids – back in October, it was like all of a sudden it was December and I wasn’t ready!!! I think I’m finally ready now – just need to decide if I’m going to do stockings for my kids this year or not – if I am, I really need to get on that!

I’m totally excited for Christmas this year! It’s been an interesting couple of weeks since I decorated and since we put up our tree! Avery is into EVERYTHING – ALL THE TIME! She’s on go the whole time she’s awake! Thankfully she still usually takes 2 naps a day!!! It’s been a challenge teaching her to not touch the tree, and honestly, she still touches it! So far she hasn’t hurt herself or broken any ornaments, but leaving her on her own so I can get something done – inevitably ends up with her touching the tree and then getting a pop! But overall, she’s done fine! It will be fun to see her and Luke open their gifts on Christmas morning!

It’s also been really fun to dress her up each Sunday! I’ve taken pictures each week – except for last week – because somehow I’ve managed to lose the camera – NOT GOOD! But that’s been really fun! I’ll be posting those along with some of our Christmas tree here shortly!

Well that was pretty random and all over the place! But now Avery is waking up from her nap (less than an hour nap) crying so I need to go! Be on the lookout for pictures!
