New Baby

I'm happy to report that Dana and Brian Long are now the proud parents of a 7lb 9oz 20 and 1/4 inches long baby boy! Dylan Bradley Long was born this afternoon at Women's Hospital of Greensboro. Dana's not in a room yet, but from what I understand her and Dylan are doing well!

I'm so excited! I cannot wait to see him this evening!

Shoes

I do love shoes! Who would have thought that cute little girl shoes would be so expensive?!?! How can Avery have all the right colored shoes to go with her cute dresses for church when each pair cost $22 or MORE?!?! My shoes don't cost that much, and my feet aren't growing anymore!!

This is the Day

For those of you who know me, you know I love to sing, but unfortunately the Lord did not give me the ability to carry a tune in a bucket, so hearing me sing isn't all that wonderful!

So when Luke was born everyone said "you have to sing to your baby!" Oh, boy! Poor kid! But I did, cause "they" said it was good for him, even if it wasn't in tune. There were many mornings - after VERY long nights - that I woke up not feeling in a happy mood. So while I was feeding Luke I would sing (to him and for my own soul) this is the Day that the Lord Has Made. It always helped me to really refocus on the day and what was important and that even though I was up for 2 or 3 hours in the night that I was blessed to have another day at home with my son. Now, with Avery (since she's a much better sleeper) I usually don't feel down in the mornings (still feeling blessed to be at home with both of my babies now!), but on rainy days (the 4th one in a row) like today that song comes to mind and it helps me to remember what’s really important about the day and what the Lord really has for me and my children!

So if you’re down today - remember that today is the day that the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it!

He sure loves us!

More teeth and stuff updates

Avery is getting teeth in like it's going out of style! She's cut 2 new teeth this past weekend! Since then she is much happier! Poor little thing, that's a lot of teeth in a short amount of time! But I'm happy to get them in and be done with it! I’m sure she is too!

I also wanted to give you an update on some previous matters of prayer.

First, Aunt Kay is home and doing very well! Thank you Lord!

Second, Nona has been moved to a nursing home. This was a hard decision for my in laws, but they felt it was best, since she can get the care she needs there. We're still praying for Nona, but for now she's doing OK.

There have also been many praises in the last week or so - some friends of ours has some weird stuff going on with their 2 year old son – after several tests, they aren’t sure what it was, but he seems fine. They will go back for some follow up blood work next week. We're claiming and praising the Lord for His healing hand on Coen!

I've had the privilege of working as "leader" of our churches yearly Ladies Retreat this year. In the past couple of weeks I've seen different people give from their hearts so some ladies who cannot afford to go, but really need to go, can be part of the weekend! I've been blessed by the loving, giving hearts of the wonderful people I go to church with!

On Friday there will be a new baby in my “world”! (Thankfully NOT mine!) Dana - a good friend - is scheduled for a c-section Friday at noon! I'm so excited, I cannot see straight! I just love the coming of a new baby! Plus, David and I get to turn going to see the baby into a date night!! YIPPEE! I love those too!

One last praise, which is also a request – another good friend - Shannon - found out yesterday that she has to have her appendix out. Now this is good, because she had to have a CATT scan done, and we're glad it's just her appendix and nothing more serious. She'll be seeing the surgeon on Friday morning, and will then set a time to have it removed! So keep her and her family in your prayers please!

I guess that’s it as far as updates go! Thank you all for your prayers!

She's just too cute!

Funny Converstation

The other night before bed, Luke and I were looking at some pictures on the computer. It's something he likes to do every now and then! We came across the pictures from the hospital when Avery was born and his first visit. He said the funniest thing; it was too funny just to put on the "one liner" side.

L: "Is that you and Avery, Mommy?"
M: "Yes, it is! Do you remember coming to see us at the hospital?"
L: "Yeah, I came to see you when Avery bounced out of your tummy!"

Cool Stuff

Yesterday was a good day!

First I went consignment shopping and did really well! I was so pleased with the few clothing deals I found for Avery and the toy deals (like he needs more toys!) for Luke! We got a huge blessing this year - a good friend gave us an enormous box of her boys cloths that are the same size as Luke is now! So I don't have to buy anything for him! That was really cool! I only need a few more things for Avery for the winter, and she'll be good to go!

The other really cool thing that happened yesterday was, we found out who Luke's teacher will be at his new preschool! I had a very hard time making the decision to move him because I was SO PLEASED with his other school, but with gas prices and my Suburban, it just didn't make sense for me to drive him the 20 minutes over there, when there was another church based preschool - right around the corner! So after much prayer, we decided to go ahead and enroll him at Shady Grove Preschool. Then yesterday I get a call from our good friend Krista Valade (she also happens to be the same one who gave me all those cloths for Luke) and she says she took a new job as a preschool teacher at - yup you guessed it - Shady Grove and she's gonna be Luke's teacher this year!!!!!!!!!!!!! AMAZING!

I thought it was just so cool how God worked all that out! I was a bit nervous about changing schools, and here all along He knew that Krista would end up being Luke's teacher! I could not be happier about the whole situation! Thank you Lord!

What I've got so far

Thank you Dawn for the web sites, I'll be sure to check those out and I do so LOVE Rachel Ray - I could get into that for sure!

Here is the outline of the 2 week meals I've done. Yesterday morning I boiled 6 chicken breasts and 1 lb of ground turkey. I made and froze a big pan of chicken spaghetti with some of the chicken. I got out 2 lbs of ground turkey, but ran out of time to do anything with the second pound, so now I have to go ahead and cook it and refreeze it or adjust the menu to accommodate it sooner rather than later. I haven't decided just yet.

Anyway, here's how the menu looks:
Tuesday: we had: Shake N Bake (I used the garlic and herb variety) Chicken (this is one of Luke’s favorites) I cut the chicken up into nugget size and bread them that way. It's a big hit!
Wednesday: Lasagna and salad. There's enough lasagna leftover so I froze the remainder of the pan.
Thursday: Bruschetta Chicken Bake (Kraft food and family recipe)I used 2 of the chicken breasts that I boiled on Tuesday for this.
Friday: Chicken Alfardo Pasta. This is simply the last 2 chicken breasts I boiled, some sort of pasta, and Classico Sun-dried Tomato Alfrado sauce.
Saturday: we're going to a birthday party!
Sunday: home-made pizzas.
Monday: Already made chicken spaghetti.
Tuesday: Crock Pot - Creamy Chicken & Veggies.
Wednesday: Chicken soft tacos.
Thursday: Meatball Sandwiches.
Friday: Sour Cream Enchiladas.
Saturday: we're going to spend the day at Smith Mt. Lake again!! YIPPEE!
Sunday: Parmesan Chicken (enough for my family as well as my cousin-in-law Carries family - they just had a baby!)

So we'll see how that goes, and how much of it gets rearranged and how much of it I'm able to keep on track! I'm trying to be really committed to it, as I think it'll really help us in the long run! I may in the future, try to make some more freezable things all at one time. I really like the idea of having it already done!

Busy lives

The last couple of days I have discovered that things are getting very busy around here! With the approach of school - I know preschool isn't as big a deal as regular school - but still we changed schools this year and Luke will be going 3 days instead of 2 - and different schedules with our "regular buddies" things might be getting ready to change a bit!

Keeping up with our friends and family seems to get harder and harder. Time goes on and on and before you know it it's been 2 months or so since we've seen some of our friends - and family for that matter! I don't know when the last time we had Rob and Amy over was?!!? Or Chanda and Tony!! I've tried to make it a point to have people to our house, cause it's easier for the kids (and really for me too!) that way, so when it's time for bed I can excuse myself and give baths and put them to bed. But still - day after day - life seems to be zooming on and it gets harder to keep up with others.

I guess some of it is just to be expected with growing children (and in some of our friends cases - growing families) that schedules will change and things won't be the same as they've always been. Sometimes I think that's sad, other times I'm excited about the new and exciting things the future holds!

Along with the other changes we've been making, we've added eating at home more often to the list! I know that sounds ridiculous since I'm a stay at home mom - there should be no reason that I don't have dinner ready every night - but truthfully sometimes I just don't feel like it. Other times the day seems to get away from me and I cannot get anything "thrown together". Then there are the times I need a few minutes out of the house! Whatever the reasons, we're working to change that! First it'll save us money, which right now seems really important since everything is going up in price! And secondly, it's a lot healthier to eat at home!

So I've started working toward a new goal - monthly meal planning! I've been doing weekly meal plans for several years now (sometimes they weren't followed very closely!). But starting this week I did a plan for 2 weeks (I’m working into it slowly) and we'll see how that goes before I up it to a 3 week plan and then add the 4th week!

I know some of you out there are wonderful cooks and have great recipes – so if you have a favorite please send it on! I’d love to have some good for you, easy to make things to rotate into my families favorites!

Teeth

Avery had decided that she will share the joy of cutting teeth with her parents! I guess she felt like we were being left out - since the last 2 teeth she's cut have been while she was away from us! Poor little thing has been miserable the last few days! She seems to be working on several teeth - as I can see a new one on the top - that makes 6 and can feel what I think is one more on the bottom. With her usually she gets one on the bottom and then the matching one on top - so I don't know how long she will be miserable, but I'm hoping it won't last too much longer! Plus as it seems (and maybe I'm doing something wrong here!?!?!) that neither of my children sleep very well when they are getting teeth. Luke, bless his cute little heart - doesn't sleep well anyway, and he sure didn't while his teeth we're coming in. Avery and I were awake (with small amounts of sleep in-between) for about 3 hours the other night until she managed to work through it or they stopped hurting or whatever! So I hope there aren't too many more of those nights in our future!

I try to always find the up side in sleepless nights, and cranky babies and in this situation (as Shannon pointed out to me), once all her teeth are in - that's it - there all in and no more cranky baby due to getting teeth! That'll be nice!

David has tried to help out some of my sleepless nights by making new rule for Luke! Luke has started getting up in the middle of the night and coming down to our bedroom and crawling in bed with us. Then he starts talking to me and that's the first I know he's there! Of course he doesn't want to go back to sleep, so after about 10 or 15 minutes of him wiggling around, kicking me, and trying to talk to me, I take him back up to his bed. Some nights that works just fine, and he goes back to sleep - other nights he'll come back down an hour later. So last night David laid down the new rules! If he wakes up in the night - and HAS to come downstairs, he's not allowed to wake up Mommy - he has to talk to Daddy instead. Well last night, at about 3:30 here he came! He did go to David, and after a brief conversation, David sent him back to bed. That was the last we heard from him! I don't know if he went right back to sleep or not, but he was next to me at 7:15AM saying "Wake up Mommy, Mommy, Wake up!" I appreciate the help, so that on nights when I am up with Avery, at least I'll be able to sleep if Luke is up too!

Oh, the joys of motherhood! So I’m thinking that this is just more confirmation that I'm done having babies! I love mine to pieces, but am really happy to not have to do all this again! I'll leave the baby having to other friends and family members!

Dedication Pictures

Robert, Amy and Reagan
The whole gang

Dedication

Yesterday we had the awesome privilege of going to church with my bother-in-law and sister-in-law. It was nice of them to have us, but the reason we went was even cooler! During service – they had their beautiful baby Reagan dedicated to the Lord. It was such an exciting morning!

This was the second time they tried Reagan’s dedication– last time she had an episode and ended up spending some time in the hospital (scary for sure, but she’s doing great now!). It was a real blessing to be there for such a special occasion! It’s amazing how much she’s grown – she’s doing so very well these days!

During the dedication and sermon I was reminded all over again of God’s unfailing love and care for Robert, Amy and Reagan – well for all of us actually! The pastor pointed out several times just what a wonderful gift our children are – and how faithful He was during Reagan’s premature birth and the long months of hospital stays that followed. I was reminded that our children do in fact belong to Him, and it’s an honor to be able to raise them in hopes that they too will grow to love the Lord with all their hearts and long to serve Him with their whole lives.

Following the dedication - the sermon was the last sermon in a series on fathers and their roll in the home and how important they are in their children’s lives. I had 2 wonderful thoughts during that sermon that reminded me how blessed I truly am! Here they are, First - I had a wonderful, loving Dad. He was there for me – emotionally, spiritually and he did (along with my wonderful Mom) a great job of giving my sister and I all the things we needed and many, many things we wanted! He spent countless hours at gymnastics meets and ballet recitals doing the Dad thing. He also took us to church and he himself went weekly (although I do remember some times in my younger years when he would fall asleep during the sermon part of the service – with his eyes OPEN! How can you do that?!?!?!). I was blessed to have a Dad who loved the Lord and raise his children that way too!

My second reminder - is that my husband is a wonderful father! I’m very blessed to have a husband who loves the Lord and his family (I’m sure there are times we get on his last nerve – it can be hard to work from home while you’re children are home too). He’s very good with the kids, very involved, loves them very much and he is a wonderful representation to them of their heavenly fathers love. I want nothing more than for my kids to grow up loving Christ – and I’m blessed to have a husband who wants the same thing too, and he has already started molding their tender young hearts and showing them the love of Christ.

I’m thankful to pastor Downing for the beautiful baby dedication, and for helping me to remember just how blessed I am with my own Dad and how thankful I am for my wonderful husband! I’m blessed for sure!

It's Friday!

Yippee! It's Friday! I'm not so much excited that it's actually Friday and that tomorrow starts the weekend (although that does mean more time with Daddy around) since most days are about the same for me with being at home, but tonight we have a cookout with my closest friends and their families! I'm so looking forward to it!

It's really hard to get all of us together at the same time, and this will be especially nice since the husbands will be there too! That's always a lot of fun when you throw the men into the mix!

It almost seems like an end of the summer bash, and I don't like that much! I love summer and I'm not ready for it to end. It's not actually ending today or anything and we usually have really nice weather well into October (nice enough to be in the ocean in October - gotta LOVE that!) but the pool is only open for a few more weeks, and Luke starts school the beginning of September. So it feels like summer is wrapping up and I'm a bit sad! It's been a really great summer!

On the exciting side - my friend Dana is scheduled for her c-section on the 29th and I'm looking forward to that! A new baby boy, isn't that wonderful?!?! Plus the really great thing is I feel like I can help her out in any way she needs, but I'm not the one personally going through the new born stuff again! That makes me extremely happy! I love my babies – but I’m happy to be done the newborn stage!

I think it's so neat how God always has something special for us! I feel really blessed today!

Thank you Shannon for all the great pictures! They got really good!

Shopping!

Last night was the first of this season's consignment sales! It was a good time shopping for winter cloths for a girl! Although I really love summer stuff better, I got some cute stuff for Avery! I also got a really big blessing this season and was given a HUGE box of boys clothing from our friends the Valade’s! I don't have to buy not one single thing for Luke for this season! I'm very thankful for the cloths and that I don't have to buy for both kids!

I just love consignment sales!

Also, I was told that the dates I had listed for the Shady Grove consignment sale dates I had listed for October were from LAST year! I'll have to update that when I get the correct dates!

Where is all my time going?

It seems that the more time I spend on the computer - the more there is to do on the internet! Thanks to the prodding of my cousins & friends I too joined the "Facebook Movement" and it’s a pretty interesting thing! It's been kinda neat to see some folks I went to high school with. The really funny thing is that other than some friends of ours who are in the Navy down in LA (miss you guys!) - I talk to the same people I talk to on a daily basis – my closest friends (sometimes their husbands!) and my cousins! It's kinda funny! It’s still a neat thing to be connected to people who I don’t get to see or talk to all that often!

So these days I get on the computer to post on my blog, check my other favorite blogs and then end up on Facebook! Holy Cow, before I know it I've been on line for way too long and my laundry and dishes aren't done! My kids are content to play on the floor in the office while I do all this, but for some reason the other stuff doesn't get done!

I think I must be addicted to the internet! I’m finding that the biggest problem is - sharing my computer with Luke! He totally loves the Thomas the Train web site as well as Bob the Builder! He can turn on the computer himself and David put a link on my desktop to those sites and he can get there by himself. So there are times when we would both like to be online at the same time! I'm seeing a Christmas gift idea for Mommy -a nice, new, thin, laptop with remote wireless access anywhere in our house?!?!

They did so well!

The pictures of Avery turned out really well! I ended up with 4 different poses - with pictures in all different sizes - so for Nanny and Grandpoppy - I'll get those in the mail to you ASAP! Meme and Papa, I'll get you yours the next time we're together! I'll try to get a few posted on here (if I can get them off the CD) when I have a bit more time!

I took Luke along with me to the photo shoot - we packed LOTS of trains to keep him busy - and he was such a GOOD BOY! I was so proud of him! He even shared his trains with 2 other little boys who where there with their families! I was very proud of him!

Overall I was very pleased with the whole morning and I'm so happy to have pictures of Avery! And as Nanny mentioned, I'm sure she'll be pointing that out to me some day in the not too far off future!

Picture Day

Tomorrow's the day! Finally Avery (whom has suffered from second child syndrome bad!) gets to go have her pictures taken - professionally!

I was very diligent with Luke and took him at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months for pictures. Avery hasn't been since she was about 4 weeks old - she'll be nine months on Thursday! So tomorrow we go and we have pictures taken. I'm looking forward to it! Several weeks ago I bought a dress for her for this particular occasion and so I'm excited to see how they turn out!

I do so love Portrait Innovations! They do a great job there, and I love that the pictures are taken digitally and when they are done, you sit down, pick the ones you want and then they print them right then! I just love being able to leave with the pictures when we’re done.

August Weather

The past couple of days have been unseasonably warm for us here in the South! It's been in the mid 80’s which is way cooler for us than the normal mid 90's we're used to this time of year! But it's been totally wonderful! I love it! It just makes us want to be outside all day long! Today is supposed to be more of the same! We're going to the pool today - trying to get as much of that stuff in as we can before the season ends! I'm looking forward to it!

I just love how God changes the seasons and the weather to give us just what we need! Not only for things to grow and bloom, but for our mental well being too! Winter isn't my favorite season, so I try to soak up as much spring, summer and fall as I can! Luckily for me - winter's not too long in NC!

I plan on enjoying today’s weather and being thankful to the Almighty for such a beautiful day!

Stuff

Just a fast update on stuff going on here!

My Aunt Kay was readmitted to the hospital (in PA) last evening due to some after gallbladder surgery complications. Please keep her in your prayers. I'm not sure what her current status is, I’ll be sure to update as soon as I know anything.

David's grandmother - Nona - was also admitted to the hospital (in NC) today due to a sever bladder infection. If you don't mind keeping her in your prayers as well!

On a healthier note - Avery cut another tooth (that makes 5) - she was kind and did this while she was with Meme and Papa! That's my girl! I told her she could get all her teeth while she was with her grandparents!

As of this morning I officially have items (almost 300 of them) for sale at Covenant Church's consignment sale! I was able to finish tagging everything yesterday (thanks to David taking Luke out of the house and Avery taking a good nap!) and we loaded it all up last evening and dropped it off this morning! I'm so glad to be done moving cloths around and poking myself in the fingers with safety pins! Next the really fun stuff -SHOPPING!!!!!!

Smith Mountain Lake Day

We had a blast yesterday at the Lake! The weather was perfect - in the mid 80's - and the sun was out, clear Carolina blue sky, and good company!

The only down side was that after putting the jet ski in and running it for a while -it "broke" - who knows what the problem is/was but this is the second time we've taken it to Smith Mt. Lake, and had trouble with it! So we ended up toeing it back to the trailer (almost got the Suburban stuck in the sand) and spending the rest of the day on the boat!

We docked for lunch - also very good - and then found a spot for the boys to "go swimming"! The both did very well considering there's no bottom in the lake! Cameron and Luke both swam in the lake some with their mommies - and Cameron even did some jumping from the boat ladder to his mommy! It was a good time for sure.

I only managed to take a few pictures so I'll wait until Shannon sends me hers to post some from the day!

Smith Mountain Lake

Tomorrow we are off for a day at Smith Mountain Lake! Yippee! I'm so looking forward to it! The weather is supposed to be perfect and since Avery will be with Meme and Papa - I'm looking forward to some good one on one time with Luke! I've started getting our "snacks" (it's like most of my pantry is going along!) ready and packing up towels, sunscreen, cameras and anything else we might need!

We picked up our jet ski last evening and the pontoon boat is reserved! Fun times!

Too Cute!

Yesterday I was trying to keep Avery awake a bit longer than usual so that when Aunt Amy arrived I could focus on her instead of worrying about Avery getting into everything! At about 10AM I got in the shower and put Avery in her Johnny jump-up - which she loves! After showering and getting all ready - Luke and I were putting away his toys when I realized I no longer heard her - this was how I found her!

I guess she was tried and ready for a nap?!?!

Consignment Sale time

Since Luke was born, I've totally gotten into the whole consignment sale thing. I've found it's a great way to get lots of cloths for near nothing and that way I can get a WHOLE lot more!! I love to shop anyway, and this way I'm getting more for my money! As if I didn't already LOVE this way of clothing Luke, it's even BETTER now since I've got a girl to shop for too! The selection for girls is usually about double that of the boys! FUN, FUN, FUN!

Well, we're coming up on fall consignment sale time! YIPPEE! I've decided this year to be a consigner as well as a consignee! So I've spend the last couple of weeks - off and on - working on going through Luke's cloths, hanging them, labeling them and getting them ready to sell. It's been fun, but I'm getting down to the wire and need to finish all of it up so I can drop them off on Monday morning. It seems like a TON of stuff, and honestly David may have to help me take it to the church on Monday evening!

My wonderful sister-in-law is coming on Thursday and she'll look through Avery's cloths and take whatever she things she may want or be able to use for Reagan eventually, and then whatever she doesn't take I'll be selling as well!

If you don't shop consignment sales for your children's cloths (or yard sales are good too!) you should! I have the information for a few of them in my area, I'll list those below and as I get more I can post that information also! If you’re not in my area - usually you can check with local church preschools to see if they have sales. Lots of them do!

Here is some info for the Greensboro/Colfax/High Point area sales:

Getting Old

It's been forever since I've blogged, so sorry about that! It seems that life has gotten very busy with the day to day stuff for some reason! It all the same stuff it's always been, it seems to be more of it or it's taking longer to get it done or something - who knows?!?!

What I do know is that I seem to be feeling old these days! I'm battling a cold (thanks to Avery I would guess!) and I do fine during the day, but in the evening and if I get particularly worn down during the day - I feel terrible! Taking Advil Cold seems to be getting me thru, but boy it sure makes me feel all old and achy all over! That's not too fun - especially when there are 2 little ones to keep up with during the day!

On the bright side, it's not a bad cold, just enough to be annoying and like I said mostly only in the evenings! I'm trying to get lots of rest (which didn't happen last night - it seemed that it was the night for both kids to be awake!) and I'm sure it'll pass on soon!

Something to look forward to is a lake trip this Saturday! We will be going up to Smith Mountain Lake for the day! We'll be taking the Jet Ski and we've also rented a pontoon boat! We'll be going with Ryan, Shannon and Cameron Kauffman - Ryan and David are cousins and Shannon and I and our kids spend lots of time together! So it should be a fun day! The little girls are staying at home this trip! A pontoon boat isn't too good a place for crawlers and beginning walkers, so we figured it was safer to leave them home this time! The girls will have fun at their respective places for the day and we'll miss them for sure, but I'm looking forward to spending the day with Luke and David!

It's time to be off doing the things I need to get done! I'll try to do better about keeping up with the blog!!

New Trains

Luke has been saving his quarters - which he earns by feeding Jane 2 times a day - for sometime now. The other day while we were at Wal-Mart he found a Thomas the Train thing he wanted so he was on a mission to get enough money to buy that thing! Well thanks to a good friend who sent Luke some money while he was in the hospital he discovered yesterday that he had enough money to go buy it! So off we went to purchase that this morning! Upon arriving at Wal Mart we discovered that this particular thing he wanted was totally different from ALL the other types of tracks he already has (he has 3 different types - come on now why can they not all be the same?!?!) and he would also have to buy some new tracks to go with it! Needless to say he didn't have enough money for both! We spent some time looking at the other Thomas things and he finally decided on some additional cars to go with his "Take Along" set. He was so pleased with himself and is now downstairs happily playing with the new trains!

It was pretty funny paying for his trains with one ten dollar bill and then the other $14 in quarters! The check out lady was very understanding with us!

I had to con him into letting me take some pictures before we opened the new trains! He is just too cute! I was proud of him for saving his money and getting the things he wanted! He does a lot better saving his money than his Mommy does!!
