One sick kid or another

Am I the only person who always seems to have a sick kid? Is that what it's like with 2 kids, is one always sick?

Avery seems to have a cold. Poor little thing! I know that colds are "to be expected" but I just wonder – are my kids the only ones who seem to be sick with something all the time! I know it's not the end of the world - it's just a cold – and I’m SO glad it’s nothing more than that, but it seems like it's always someone who doesn’t feel good!

Oh well, it's not bad enough to keep us at home - we're off to the pool today! Luke is so excited about going! I'm sure we'll have a blast; it's been forever since we were there!

New Hair

Well - I got my hair cut and I really like it! It'll take some getting used to, and I'm not sure how David feels about it (he's not said too much about it - just that if I'm happy, he's happy!) but I do like it! I didn't take any pictures yesterday when it was blown straight, and today I'm leaving it curly! I'm sure if better/more pictures are taken I'll post them! For now these will be the best I can do for you to see it!

Something New

Today I’m gonna do something new and different – with my hair! I’ve been wearing my hair in the same general style – sometimes shorter, right now longer - since we moved to NC in 1991. That’s a long time to keep the same hair style! But I have very thin, naturally curly hair so this style has worked for me. I’m ready for something different so I’m gonna get it cut some and in a little bit different style. I’m a bit nervous – but excited too! I know it’s just hair and it’ll grow back, but my hair grows SO SLOWLY, that if I don’t like it, it’ll be a while before I get hair I do like again! I’m however willing to take that risk in order to do something new! I’ll post pictures after we get a chance to take some!

I sure hope David doesn’t hate it!

On a different note – Luke and Avery are with our friend Dana and her daughter Riley today. Luke seems overall to be doing much better! He seems to be mostly back to his happy little self and his insides seem to be working “normally” these days! We continue to be thankful to our Lord and Savior for healing and continued health. Thank you for your prayers for him. We are most grateful for them!

Girls Beach Weekend

I’m home today from my last planned vacation this summer! This past weekend was our annual “Girls Beach Weekend!” For the last 3 years I’ve had the privilege of going to N. Myrtle Beach with Shannon (who’s condo we get to stay in – THANK YOU!), her sister Robyn, and Dana! This year was no different – except that it might have been too soon to leave Luke after all that he had been through earlier in the week, and the fact that David had strep throat, and Nona ended up needing to be taken to the hospital, (yeah, I think that was all that happened!) but thankfully Meme and Papa did a great job caring for everyone while I was gone! Thank you so much to them for caring for my babies and checking up on David! It took more than a day for me to finally relax and have a good time, but I did relax and the rest of the weekend was a real blast!

We spent the weekend shopping at the outlets, hanging out, eating out, playing games and NOT changing diapers or cleaning up after anyone else! Actually on Saturday we didn’t get out of our PJ’s until almost 4:30 in the afternoon! It was really nice and a ton of fun to sit around most of the day laughing and talking!

After much discussion about where to go for dinner – we finally decided on The Melting Pot! So we got dressed and off we went! The food was GREAT, the atmosphere was fun and the company was even better! We had a blast and a TON to eat!

Us Girls

As if we didn’t laugh enough at dinner, we came back to the condo and spent a couple hours playing games! I know for sure that there was enough laughter to make us cry! It was a good time for sure!

I was ready to be home with my family on Sunday morning! We had a good breakfast (at David’s FAVORITE breakfast place – sorry Honey!) and then headed home! It was a good trip home, and I was SO VERY happy to see my babies and my Hubby! It was nice to be gone, but so wonderful to come home!

We’re already talking about next year’s trip! Cannot wait girls!!

Recovered

It’s amazing how fast little people recover from something as traumatic as having an I-V line in, a tube pushed down you’re nose and into your tummy – and then 5 hours later throwing that tube up again, having the worst case of the runs in his little life, spending the majority of 2 days in the hospital with very little sleep, and all different people poking at him and a day later be perfectly “normal”! Luke sure is a tough little guy!

Yesterday we just hung out and did the movies/play trains thing. He napped like normal, ate pretty good, and went to be at his regular bed time! Even slept all night – which he doesn’t always do anyway! This morning he’s up and playing and acting most like himself, he even had to sit in time out already today! It’s so nice to have my boy back!!

So far he hasn’t mentioned – not once – being in the hospital or anything about being sick or anything from the whole experience. It’ll be interesting to see if he does and what he remembers of it when he gets older.

I’ve been remind over the last several days just how special it is that we have family and friends who are believers! I cannot imagine what non-believers do when faced with something scary like a sick child! It wasn’t fun, and it was sometimes horrible, but I knew the whole time that the Lord had my “little bitty baby in His hand!” and I couldn’t have been more thankful! The Lord is so faithful in His promises. The worst time for anyone who doesn’t feel well, or is lonely or depressed or whatever, always seems to be in the dark hours of the night! The other night – in the dark hours – I tried to remember that God was in control and just remember who He was and that He would do what He said he would do! Last night when I was reading Luke his devotions before bed it reminded us to think about Jesus day and night and this verse was printed “Lord, during the night I remember who you are.” Psalm 119:55, NIrV I love it when the Lord speaks to me through my sons preschool devotions!

Thank you God for being faithful and taking care of Luke! Thank you for loving him and for trusting him to David and me!

Hospital Pictures

Here are a couple of pictures of Luke at the hospital. He was a real trouper for sure! The popsicles were a wonderful treat for him and of course the constant attention was also a treat!

We're Home!

Praise the Lord and Hallelujah we’re HOME! The dr. finally came by late this afternoon and took a look at Luke and he gave his stamp of approval for Luke to come on home! We were so excited! It’s so good to be home with both my babies! Poor Luke I think is really excited as well, because although he was almost asleep in the car on the way home – he ate a bit (about half and apple), took a bath and is now playing in his bed! Silly boy! I would really like for him to go to sleep, so I can as well! David has already headed off to bed – he’s not feeling too well! Poor guy is running a low grade fever – I asked if he needed to see the doctor?!?! He wasn’t amused! Please keep him in your prayers! He got the least sleep of all of us last night and I think he’s plain worn down!

I wanted to just take a minute to thank all of you who were lifting us up in prayer! I cannot tell you how very comforting it was – in the long, dark hours to know that there were many family and friends bringing Luke, David and I before the Thrown of the Most High! Thank you for being faithful in praying for us and for helping to carry our burden! I know that I think Luke is a really special little guy, but I got to see that many who already know him think so too. You know what else was really cool? Luke was so good while we were there and all the nurses just loved him and thought he was so cute, smart and in general so polite. That made me proud of him beyond words! I hope and pray that all our nurses saw Christ thru us. I am so glad that I have the Lord to lean on in scary times like the last 2 days!

I also want to thank David for being the best Daddy and husband in the world! He was calm, cool and collected the whole time. He never backed down once and did ALL he could to get our Baby Boy the best possible care he could. He kept up with all that was going on and he mainly dealt with the doctors. He was wonderful and he never left Luke’s side! And today when Mommy broke down – he was there for me too! I am a truly blessed woman to have such a strong Godly husband and father to my children!

One last person – or 2 or 4 or 6 or 8 shunting trucks and hulling freight --- oh sorry, Thomas the Train song there! – to thank and that’s Carolyn, my mother in law! She met me at the doctors office on Monday morning when all this started and she stayed with Avery until we got home tonight! I had many, many offers from other friends and loved ones to help out as well! But I thank Carolyn for being with our Baby Girl! And as for our oldest baby (I mean our doggie Jane) thanks to Richard and Leslie for keeping here – I know poor Odie will be sad when she comes home!

What I have learned most of all from this experience is – I will forever see a cold, ear infection, even the flu in a whole new light – at least we’re not at the hospital with a tube down our noses!!

Luke Update

Still here at the hospital. It's all hurry up and wait once you're here ya know?!?! So anyway, one of the many docs who seem to be "around" was just in and said they will get Luke on some solid food and if he does well with that he might could go home. But unfortunately that particular doctor cannot send Luke home and the doctor that can is in a "long surgery, so we don't know how long he'll be." Could be a long time it sounds like. Great! I guess we have no choice but to keep on waiting!

Luke is resting peacefully after a very un-peaceful night last night, so for that I'm very glad! After he wakes up I guess we'll see about eating something.

Right now I'm praying for understanding and trying to be patient. I would really like to take Luke home and have both my kids together again!

David has been up here with Luke and I the whole time as well, so please pray that things with his business would continue to run smoothly so he won't have to worry about work stuff too!

Hospital Visit

We had our first overnight stay at the hospital with one of our kids last night! Luke had been complaining off and on since Friday night of a hurting tummy. Well Sunday night into Monday morning it was really bad! So we went to the doctor yesterday morning and after much crying and carrying on the doctor feeling he couldn't get a good handle on what was going on sent us over to the ER at Brenner's Childrens Hospital.

Needless to say we spent most of the day in the ER - the ran all kinds of tests including x-rays, blood work, urine samples and much poking and prodding by all sorts of medical experts! After the initial rush of evaluations and tests we just sat and waited and waited and waited. The Doc finally determined that he thought Luke was severely constipated and he wanted to admit him and give him some meds to "get things moving!" After much more waiting - they moved us to a room - complete with a "parent" bed so we could stay with him.

The medicine the Doc prescribed for him is called Go-Lighly - and apparently it tastes terrible so after talking with the nurses and dr. we decided to let Luke try and drink it so that we could maybe avoid putting in a feeding tube. Well Luke give it a try by sipping 2 sips and then refused to drink anymore! So about 9:30 they started the process of putting the tube in. I'm not sure who it was worse for - mom and Dad or Luke?!?! After 2 attempts (because Luke managed to pull it out the first time) they got the tube in and the meds going! Poor guy was very upset until about11:30 or so when he finally relaxed a bit. Finally at about 12:30 the magic finally happened and for the next 2 hours we changes LOTS of diapers! David said he was "never so happy to see stinky in his life!" I seconded that statement and we did our best to make a VERY tired and VERY cranky little boy as comfortable as he could be! Then just when we thought things couldn't get worse, poor Luke started throwing up! Well that brought up the feeding tube! So they just took it out! That was a bit of a relief mostly for Luke. Our concern then was that they would have to reinsert the tube! But after talking with the nurse, and she talked with the doctor, it was decided that he was probably fine with the amount of medicine they had gotten into him! Praise the Lord for that! After that Luke finally feel asleep! He seemed to sleep very peacefully for the remainder of the night!

So this morning we saw the doctor at about 6:00AM and he said after Luke got some clear fluids into him (so far the only thing we've been able to get him to eat is popsicilles!!)

Baby Shower

Yesterday was a very, very busy day! Fun, but busy! It was the day of the much anticipated Baby Long baby shower! My friend Dana is having her second baby and Shannon, Robyn (Shannon’s sister) and I set out months ago to throw a shower for Dana! We’ve been planning and doing menu’s and picking games and decorations and guest lists and invitations and on and on for months now – it’s been fun, but it’s been crazy too!

So yesterday was the big day! We got together at the host house (which was generously loaned to us by Aunt Wendy (she’s David’s Aunt!)) at 11:00 yesterday to do the rest of the setting up and cooking! Luckily for us Shannon had done a good bit of the work on Friday – thank you Shannon! And things went very smoothly once we got there and got rolling! It was so much fun putting it all together and making everything look beautiful! Which by the way – isn’t hard to do at Wendy’s house – it’s already about the prettiest house I’ve ever seen!

The food was wonderful, the games were great, the gifts were cool, and the guests were happy! The mother to be was also very happy! It was everything we hoped it would be and we were so glad to be able to do it for our dear friend Dana! Honestly – I know I can speak for Shannon as well – we’re glad it’s done! Now we can look forward to all the joys of another new baby! It’s gonna be a boy!!!

Bummer

It turns out that the ice cream place at the farmers market isn't open at 9:30 in the morning! My little guy was pretty bummed out! I guess we'll just have to go another time when they are open!

Finally Friday

This week has seemed so very long! With David being gone – and working a bit more than usual – and being up some of the night the other night (and she didn’t want to go to sleep last night either!) and getting ready for this big baby shower this weekend – I’ve been very busy and this week has seemed to drag on! I’m glad it’s Friday for sure!

Avery did sleep pretty well last night – after she finally went to sleep at about 10:45! She was up at 3:30 and then right back to sleep. She’s still sleeping now – so I guess she’s trying to catch up!

Today the kids and I will go to the farmers market to get a couple of fresh produce things for a tomato corn salad for the shower. Luke LOVES the farmers market mostly due to the fact that there’s a Hershey’s ice cream stand there and he knows if he’s good he gets to have some! Plus I do so LOVE ice cream – it’s hard to tell him no!

The kiddos have the pleasure of going to Meme and Papa’s again tonight – well Luke for sure anyway – I’m gonna wait and see how Avery does today and see if I think she needs to stay home one more night or not! So David and I will have some sort of date again this week! I’m pretty excited about that, and if we end up with Avery – she usually does well when we go out, and it’s totally easier to take one out – than to take both! So either way I’m looking forward to some quality time with my man who’s been very busy this week!

Fever Free

This morning arrived bright and sunny – well I was awakened by Luke BEFORE the sun was up (but convinced him to get in bed with me and go back to sleep!) - then when Avery woke up about 7AM the sun was up and shinning bright! She did finally go back to sleep about 3:15 this morning and slept the rest of the night – she has been fever free since getting up this morning! She has been very sleepy (I cannot imagine why!?!?) this morning but she seems to feel much better! It looks like whatever she had was short lived, I’m so thankful for that!

I’m also thankful for the sun today – it’s always harder to make it through the day on little sleep when it’s cloudy and rainy! But today we have a beautiful North Carolina day – blue sky, sunshine and of course high summer humidity – gotta love it! The sun makes it easier to be cheery even when I don’t feel like it!

Avery is down for her morning nap and I think Luke and I will watch a movie – actually I’m hoping Luke will watch while I nap!

David called and is on his way home from Atlanta! We’re all looking forward to seeing him! Luke made a special train track, using ALL the tracks he has, to show his Daddy when he arrives home! I’d take a picture, but the track takes up most of my living room, and I don’t think I can get it all in one picture!

Oh, Look at the time...

I apparently made the huge mistake of telling both my Mom and Shannon that Avery usually sleeps through the night even when she’s sick, which I’m now convinced (earlier I thought it might just be a low grade fever due to cutting teeth) she is – since its 2:40AM and she and I are still awake. She did sleep about 3 hours tonight when I put her to bed – I slept about 2 of those 3 hours and so far those are the only 2 hours I’ve gotten tonight and it isn’t looking real good for too many more!

Avery seems to be running a fever that I cannot get to come down under 100. I don’t know what is wrong, but I know she’s tired but cannot seem to go to sleep and stay asleep. She’s been asleep several times over the last 3 hours, but doesn’t stay asleep for more than 20 or 30 minutes! Poor little thing – I hate it when you’ve done all you can for them and there is nothing more to do! She doesn’t even seem happy for me to hold her, so right now she’s “working it out” on her own in her bed. If she’s still up in another hour, she can have more Tylenol! I’m not a superstitions person by any means, but it does always seem that when I say something about my confidence in one of the kids sleep habits – they always prove me wrong!

I have however spent some good quality time in prayer tonight – I try to do a good bit of praying when my kids are awake in the night – seems like a really good thing to do with the time, especially when I’m going it solo, no one else in the house to commiserate with! So if I know and love you – which I do so love all of you who read this blog – please know I’ve prayed for you tonight! Also, when I’ve got more rest I’ll share some of the insights I’ve had tonight about peace. God is faithful – even in the long dark hours of the night!

I’m so sorry David that obviously things didn’t go as well as you had hoped at the co-lo tonight, I hope you got some good sleep- and I’ll be praying you have a safe trip home tomorrow!

Jump N Fun

Today we spent the morning with our good friends Shannon and her kids and Dana and Riley at Jump N Fun. It's one of those indoor, blow up, jump things! It was a good time for all! Avery started fussing while we were there and has been most unhappy ever since! I think she's got a cold, or is getting teeth or has some virus... I don't know, but whatever it is, hopefully it won't last too long!

I'm on my own with the kids tonight, David had to go to Atlanta to fix a server at his co-lo and so I'm here alone until tomorrow evening! I worked it so that Luke didn't take a nap today that way he'll go to bed early tonight and so will Avery, and I'll have a quite evening! I sure hate it when David is gone, and I know he does too... but boy is bedtime crazy when there’s only one of us to put them to bed!

Well it’s dinner time now, so I’m gonna go feed the kids if they’ll eat anything!

My little builder

Last evening after dinner Luke asked if he could play with his trains for a bit before his bath and bed time - playing with his trains is what Luke does with 90% of his time! He worked diligently in the living room while I finished feeding Avery, and after about 15 minutes he said, “Come look I’m done!” The pictures below are of the track he made ALL BY HIMSELF! He was so proud of himself as was I! Then he and Avery and I hung out in the kitchen! Avery is in total exploration mode and was all into everything, but we had a good time playing!

I have to say, I think they are totally too cute!

Reagan

It's my understanding that Reagan was sent home from the hospital this morning. They determined that she had a virus and it ran its course and she's well enough to go home again! Thank you all so much for your prayers, I really appreciate them!

8 Months Today

Hard to believe, but my baby girl is 8 months old today! Time goes so fast - and yet sometimes so slow! She's a proficient crawler now and getting into everything! It’s fun for sure! Here are a couple of pictures – enjoy!

Rain

I hate to wake up to a rainy Monday morning, but we need the rain, so I will try not to complain too much! It’s always hard for me to start the day with clouds! I like the bright sunshine that we get most of the time here! As Luke pointed out last week – God sent the rain so our grass would grow! I’m thankful for the rain!

It should prove to be a busy – yet fun week! Got lots to do for a baby shower for my good friend Dana on Saturday! And Luke seems to have a bit of a cold, so we’ll be spending today at home. Of course to look at or just listen to him, he doesn’t seem to feel bad at all! Always on the go – and just as happy as he can be!

I’m off to feed the little people their breakfast! We’ll be making the most of this rainy Monday!

Saturday Update on Miss Reagan

Reagan's Mommy - Amy posted on Reagan's blog about her progress. I'm attaching the link so you can read it for yourselves - Reagan Olivia - thanks so much for all your prayers!

Up AFTER the sun was up

Last night was the first night that both of the kids spent the night at Meme and Papa’s! So that meant it was the first night David and I were alone in our house in almost 8 months. It was a weird feeling for sure. Luke was so excited to be going to Meme and Papa’s and this time “Avery got to come and stay with him too!” He thought that was great that his baby sister was getting to come along with him this time!

We dropped the kids off at my in laws in Thomasville last evening and then went to Longhorn for a wonderful steak dinner! After practically stuffing ourselves full we went to Starbucks for some over priced, but very yummy coffee! Upon returning to a very quiet house we watched one of our Netflix movies! “The Good Shepard” was the title, it was a CIA move – and if you haven’t seen it – don’t bother, it wasn’t all that great!

I actually slept until about 8:15 this morning! I had almost forgotten what it was like to get up after the sun is up! It was pretty cool! No one woke me up telling me they had a stinky pull up or crying because she was hungry… it was really very nice! I took Jane out, and made some coffee and now I’m leisurely doing all things blog related. Posting a new one on my blog and checking all the others I keep up with. I do usually try to do this in the morning, but usually there are 2 kids playing and yelling on the floor next to me, not this morning. Just Jane in the office with me and she’s not making a peep!

We are meeting Meme and Papa for breakfast here in about 30 minutes or so and we’ll bring the kids back with us then! I’ll be glad to see them for sure – but it was nice to have the house all to ourselves for a few hours!

Thank you so very much Meme and Papa – other than the trouble Avery gave you going to sleep – I hope you all had a good time with the loves of my life! I’m sure you’ll be worn out as the two of them will do that to you, but we sure appreciate you keeping them for us!

Reagan Update

I talked with Amy this morning to get an update on Baby Girl Reagan – needless to say Amy sounded very worn out and in general exhausted! She told me that Reagan was still running a fever but it was down some today. She said they were letting Amy feed her again – which is good! They are still waiting for some cultures to come back, but again all the other tests they have run have been negative.

We will continue to keep them in our prayers and I know they would appreciate you’re prayers as well! An update will be posted when I know more!

Avery Girl

A mother’s joy is easily sparked by the smallest things! Last night we had dinner with David’s cousin Ryan and his family (his wife is my good friend Shannon and her kids!) and out of the blue Avery started clapping! I got the biggest kick out of it! I’ve been clapping with her for about a week and she just started doing it all on her own for the first time last night! It was so fun! She was just laughing and clapping away! I just love watching a little one grow and develop and learn to do new things - it’s just so fun!

Wounded Soldier

On our plane flight last week from Atlanta to Dallas, we were across the aisle from 2US Army soldiers. As it turns out the one was a Chaplin. David struck up a conversation with the Chaplin and we learned they these two guys were on their way home. Their home base is Fort Bliss in TX. They were on their way home from a nine month deployment to somewhere – when David asked where they were deployed to he told they couldn’t tell us – interesting! After more conversation we learned they were with a Patriot Missile Battery – very interesting. We talked about what their lives were like away from home and what the living conditions were like where they were deployed and so on and so forth. We made it very clear that we were believers and thanked them for their service! The Chaplin asked us to keep them as well as the other soldiers in our prayers. We promised we would.

As the plane landed we said our good byes and got off. We didn’t have much time between flights, so when we got off the plane we were ready to make a run for it – but as we got our bearings, the Chaplin came over and pulled us to the side. He obviously had something he felt it was very important to share with us. The whole time I’m thinking “we gotta hurry here or we’ll miss our next flight!” but I waited as calmly as I could… then he told us that the guy he was with had just lost his wife, and they were on their way home to make funeral arrangements, and would we please keep him in our prayers! Boy did that knock the wind out of my sails - I almost cried right there! We said we would defiantly say extra prayers for them and gave our condolences.

It seemed so sad! The soldier who lost his wife couldn’t have been any older than his mid thirties! Way too young to lose a wife and defiantly it seemed unfair that she had passed away while he was away serving his country. I was again reminded – (and am every time I think of the whole encounter) – that my freedoms which I take for granted DAILY – come at a great cost to many out there. I have vowed to remember not only those particular men in that particular battery but all the many others who are out fighting to keep me and my family safe and free! I honestly haven’t done a very good job of that, and really want to do better from now on!

Update

I have some details, although a bit sketchy. Apparently they have run a whole bunch of tests – I think they are trying to rule things out – so far the tests that come back quickly have been negative. They have also done a lumbar puncture but that test takes 3 days to come back with results. I don’t know what exactly they are looking for with the lumbar puncture, but right now Reagan will be in the hospital at least until those results are back.
Thank you so much for you continued prayers! I’ll be sure to keep you updated!

Baby Reagan

We just received word from Robert – my brother in law – that Reagan his daughter, my niece is being taken back to the hospital – they are taking her to Brenner’s Children’s Hospital in Winston Salem - by ambulance. Apparently she stopped breathing and although they had oxygen at home, her color wasn’t getting better and in general she wasn’t “being herself.” Reagan came home from the hospital on July 2nd for the first time since her premature birth on March 4th.

Please take just a minute to lift Robert, Amy and Baby Reagan up in prayer. I really have no idea what is going on but I’ll let you know more when there is more to share!

Vegas Pictures

The pictures below are from this great sushi restaurant that we went to Ah Sin! We forgot the camera every other time we left the hotel room, so these are the only pictures we have of our trip! We sat outside to eat our sushi and our view from the Paris hotel was of the Bellagio across the street! We had a good view of the fountain show, but I couldn’t get any really good pictures. If you look closely at the first picture below you can see the fountains, it’s just not a great picture! The other two pictures are of our friends Glen and Crystal and David and I at dinner together! We had a great time, and it was so fun to share some time with our friends!

The swing of things

I think I'm finally getting back into the swing of things here at home! We arrived home on Sunday afternoon after a fairly easy ride home. Avery cried for a while, but it wasn’t bad at all, sure could have been a lot worse!

Why is it that when you go away there’s always more to do when you get home? Laundry, dishes, unpacking! I spent a whole day cleaning before we left, so at least I didn’t have to clean bathrooms too! I had some trouble getting into it yesterday and managed to get the laundry all done, and the kids stuff all unpacked, but I didn’t get to our stuff! I’m hoping I’ll be motivated enough to do that this morning before we head out to the pool! That is if it doesn’t rain – which would be great, cause we sure do need it!

I think we are all getting back into it, both kids slept all night last night and seem to be back to themselves after a long drive home! Luke has gotten out each and every one of his toys since we’ve been home! It’s like a house full of brand new toys! I guess you realize how cool your toys are when you haven’t seen them in a week! That’s a great way to get “new stuff.” Luke has also talked a great deal about his time with Nanny and Grandpoppy! He sure did love it! He got to do all sorts of great stuff from blowing bubbles, to playing in the pool to helping Grandpoppy mow the grass. Luke even got to steer the tractor. Oh what fun! Now Avery cut a tooth while she was at her grandparents, so poor Nanny had a cranky little one for a few days! Avery also decided that she would master crawling while she was there – so she had Nanny on her feet chasing her a good bit! Nanny even said she lost some weight while the kids were there! Why doesn’t that work for me!?!?! I know many fun memories were made by all, and I’m so grateful for the help and I’m so glad my kids have such wonderful grandparents!

It’s so nice to go away and have a break from the every day routine! But it’s nice to be back to the every day routine! Plus I have a girls beach weekend to look forward to the end of July!!!

At Nanny and Grandpoppy's

We arrived safely back in GA late last night! It is so good to be home here with Nanny and Grandpoppy.

It was a long day of travel for sure, but we got here with just a little bit of trouble. It seemed our airplane in DFW had some sort of air conditioner leak and we ended up re booking another flight because we were afraid they would drag out the decision about if the were gonna fly or cancel the flight longer than they had already. We were already an hour and a half late. We were able to get a flight that we could make and not lose too much more time! This allowed us to still make our shuttle back to Dalton.

The down side was that on our original flight we had first class seats which offers all sorts of wonderful little things that you don't get in the regular seats like hot towels, warm mixed nuts as well as dinner service - NICE! Anymore you don't even get peanuts in the coach cabin anymore! Our seats were in the last row right next to the bathrooms! It was an ok flight - we finally arrived in ATL - tired and hungry, but our luggage made it(turns out our original flight flew!!) and we made our van ride back to Dalton! It was so good to be home again and back with my kids!

Our last day in Vegas was really fun and relaxing! We just hung out and played and in general enjoyed our last day of vacation.

I couldn't be more thankful to my parents for keeping the kids so we could go! It was really a good time and something we needed! It was so nice for us to have time just to be together and have fun and not have to worry about feedings, naps, bed times, or anything like that! It was neat to be just husband and wife for a while. I did miss the little ones!

So today is the 4th of July and we spent the day just hanging out and relaxing! We did jaunt to the mall so that Luke could play in the indoor play area there and Mom and I did a bit of shopping! We found somewhere to see fireworks, but decided not to go due to the forecast of rain (it seems like a ton of work to take the kids out just to have them cancel the fireworks due to rain)! So we had a great dinner that Dad cooked on the grill and spend a wonderful evening together at home!

I am grateful for the freedoms I have today! I don't have to worry about persecution for raising my children to love the Lord, or for going to church. Please remember today all those who sacrificed so much for our freedom! Happy 4th of July!

Cool

We stopped back in the room for a quick rest, and wanted to share with you something cool! David and I got to play craps with a celebrity this morning! We had been playing for a while when the dealer standing next to me asked if I watched "Everybody Loves Raymond" I said yes and the dealer said, "Well, that's him." I said who, Ray Romano?" Yup said the dealer! So there we stood across the table from Ray himself! It was pretty cool. He played at our table for about 30 minutes. We didn't talk to him due to the fact that he was across the table from us, but it was still cool! It's only taken 5 trips to Vegas for us to run into someone famous!

Now we're off to find some lunch and then we're meeting our friends the Locklear's for a sushi dinner tonight! I'm so looking forward to it! David on the other hand is planning on eating a big lunch since he don't like sushi very much!

I'll be sure to let you know if there's any more celeb sightings while we're here!

Vegas Day 2 - written on day 3

Good morning all! Except for most of you it's mid morning and you've been up for several hours!

I'm sorry I missed last nights post - we had a really fun but very busy day yesterday and I couldn't even blog when we got back to the room! I went right to bed!

The spa was WONDERFUL yesterday! The messages and time of relaxing were just so nice! It's always makes me wonder why I don't go more often at home to have that kind of thing done!! It was great!

We spent the rest of the day out and about seeing all the things there is to see in Vegas! Some of the hotels have added on since I was here last and so we checked all that out! It's totally amazing how big this place is and just how much bigger it keeps getting! After walking around down on "our" end of the strip - we took a cab - mostly because it was about 106 degrees out - to Paris. We spent most of the afternoon there and ended up eating dinner with the Locklears at our favorite restaurant - Mon Ami Gabi! It was as good as it's always been!

Overall we had a really great day! I did forget to take the camera - sorry! So I'll do better today!

I talked with Nanny this morning and my babies seem to be doing well - and Nanny sounded not too exhausted! Thank you again Nanny and Grandpoppy for keeping them so we could come! I sure miss them, but from talking the few minutes to Luke that he'll give me - he sure is having a blast with his grandparents!

Keep an eye out - I will get some pictures on!

Vegas Day #1

Greetings from Las Vegas! I should let you all know right off that I am totally exhausted, so please forgive any misspellings or other grammatical errors! I'm not the best with spelling and grammar to start with - being tired doesn't help!

We arrived safely and happily in Las Vegas today at about 3:30 Vegas time, which is about 6:30 east coast time. We had good flights - almost all on time - and our luggage arrived with no problem as well! We got checked in at our hotel - The Mirage - and then headed out to start the fun in Vegas!

We had a really fun afternoon and had dinner at the New York New York Hotel at a restaurant called the Nine Fine Irishmen. I had picked this out as a place I thought I would like to eat the last time we visited here, so I was really excited to go for dinner tonight! It was so good! I had a traditional Irish dish - fish and chips - SO GOOD and David had the steak special - also really yummy!

After dinner we visited a few more hotels - stopped of course to see the Fountains of Bellagio - one of David's most favorite things to do here - and finally made our way back to our room. I talked to some of our friends who happen to be here at the same time as us - the Locklears - and we'll be meeting them for breakfast in the morning. After that Crystal and I will go and enjoy some pampering at the spa. I'm really looking forward to my massage and foot reflexology treatment. I plan on making the MOST of my time to relax!

Luke is also helping me feel even more relaxed - when my Dad called me so we could say good night, Luke talked to me for about 3 seconds and then told Grandpoppy he was done! When Grandpoppy told him to tell me night night, he said he didn't want to! I guess it's true - Grandparents are just more fun than Mom and Dad! I am truly glad he's so happy there! I sure miss seeing my babies, but I'm so looking forward to some real relaxation time!

You all check in again tomorrow for another update! Tomorrow I'll try and have some pictures to post as well!

Now I'm off to bed so I have enough energy to keep up with David tomorrow!
